Adam Warren got the start and wasn’t crisp at all, allowing four runs (including two homers) in 3.1 innings of work. He struck out four and walked two. Not a great afternoon. Five relievers were used and Jonathan Holder was the most impressive. He struck out one and retired all six men he faced. Here are the box score and video highlights, and here’s the latest from Tampa:
- Prior to today’s game, the Yankees announced Aaron Judge and Chance Adams have been named the 2016 Kevin Lawn Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Gary Sanchez and Luis Severino won the awards last year. The year before it was Rob Refsnyder and Severino. The year before that? Bird and Shane Greene.
- Brendan Kuty has the pitching assignments and hitting/fielding groups for today. Not much to see. Sanchez, Aroldis Chapman, Michael Pineda, Dellin Betances, and Tyler Clippard all played in minor league games. Betances pitched yesterday, so this was his first time pitching back-to-back days this spring. The Yankees usually like all their relievers to do that at least once in the spring.
- Shane Hennigan has the day’s minor league lineups. Right-hander Jorge Guzman, who came over in the Brian McCann trade, was sitting 97-100 mph in his outing. Albert Abreu, the other guy in the McCann trade, was at merely 94-97 mph. Slacker. Also, Jorge Mateo played center field again. [Josh Norris]
- The Yankees are home again the Rays tomorrow afternoon. I believe Bryan Mitchell is starting. That game will not be televised. In fact, there won’t be another Yankees broadcast until Thursday. Thursday! Blah.
Here is the open thread for the rest of the day. This afternoon’s game will be replayed on YES at 7pm ET, if you’re interested. MLB Network will have other games live and on tape delay pretty much all afternoon and evening. All of the local hockey and basketball teams are playing except the Knicks, and there are a pair of March Madness games as well. Use this thread to talk about anything and everything, as long as it’s not politics or religion. Thanks in advance.
