A thought on Jorge

While the Yanks win in Baltimore, Hank awakens from his slumber
Joba staying in bullpen for now

When Jorge Posada returns to this catching duties — which, by most accounts, could be some time this week — opposing teams will and should run like the dickens off of him until he shows he can throw out baserunners. This could present something of a problem for the Yanks over the next few weeks. I hope the Yanks hold back on Jorge behind the plate until they are 100 percent sure he’s ready to go.

Let’s just hope his arm will be fine. I’m worried that his issue may be a long term one, and it’s only going to worsen over the next few years. Maybe his arm is just tired, and needed rest, but naturally it comes after we sign him to that monster deal.

They shouldn’t run on Jorge when he comes back. That is not the way you play the game. It would be like bunting on a pitcher with a bum ankle. :(

dumb yankees never did that against curt schilling in the alcs, c. 2004…oh joe torre…

Reminds me of when I used to bunt on the flat-footed guy in Babe Ruth League. He occasionally embarrassed me by throwing me out though.

I think it would make sense to make him the starting first baseman until he’s 100%. Chad Moeller is holding his own and Molina is back, so the Yanks are covered at that position until Posada returns to man it. Hopefully, the two back up catchers continue to hit.

I think Girardi would not for a second put him behind that plate with a more than capable catching situation in Jose Molina and Chad Moeller. So when he finally does start I will feel at eases knowing that is JoPo at his best, or at 100% at least.

Just because Joe Torre was too much of a pansy to have guyss bunt against Schilling in 04′ doesn’t mean that it wasn’t the right baseball move. You absolutely run on Jorge if you’re another team because you’re trying to win games any way you can. Keep him out until he can throw em’ out.

      Sarcasm my friend. ;)

Thank you Jamal. Yes my friends. My comment was indeed sarcastic.

Send Posada to AAA for rehab. We don’t need him, we have the best hitting catcher in the league in Molina and the best hitting backup in Moeller! The M&Ms…

      “The M&Ms” Cool nickname.

      Mantle and Maris catch now?

at this time, Posada does need to be the regular 1st Baseman. It is a natural, since Giambi is not hitting.

Molina is the catcher. And Moeller the backup. This will permit nyy to maintain moeller, until they know posada’s situation.

All I know is that I have never in my life witnessed a professional baseball team, let alone the richest one, not be able to carry out basic strategies like pick-offs and throwing out base-runners with a pitch-out. I just can’t fathom how we call so many pitch-outs and still can’t get a guy out. Amazing how Pettite can catch a guy dead in the water and we’ll either throw it into the outfield or miss the tag nearly every time.

Crazy. And there is just no excuse! If Jorge is a liability behind the plate, then move him to first (the weakest link) and get a guy who can actually make runners think twice before cheating.

Moeller and Molina will not continue to hit like this. They’re going to turn back into the pumpkins they are (with the bat). And Moeller’s made some terrible throws. I’m happy Molina is back.

I agree that the team needs Jorge to be 100% before they put him back there. I’m fine with him at 1B and Molina at C until Jorge’s healthy.
