Hideki to skip WBC again
ByHideki Matsui, projected to be the Yanks’ DH in 2009, will not be participating in the WBC, Ken Davidoff reported over the weekend. While a very big celebrity in Japan, Matsui is rehabbing another knee surgery, and the Yanks are not so keen on his playing during the tournament. As Davidoff notes, Matsui’s decision to opt out of the tournament in 2006 upset his fellow countrymen and baseball officials. This year, however, the 34-year-old will focus on getting and staying healthy.

A healthy Godzilla can only be a good thing for the Yankee lineup. I’m hoping we can see him return to form consistently this year, but I’m not holding my breath. He’s still one of my favorite Yankees.
He is only 34, he is DHing full time and his knees should be fully healthy. The surgeries he has got do not tend to cause lingering problems.
I think a lot of people here are sleeping on him.
My surprise performers for 09 are P-Hughes H-Matsui.
