Report: Cash ducks Vegas for CC meeting

By

Brian Cashman is a busy, busy man. Earlier this evening, he ducked out on the beat writers to meet with A.J. Burnett. But now reports have him jetting off to catch a bigger fish. According to Kat O’Brien, Cashman has left Vegas to meet with Mr. and Mrs. Sabathia in San Francisco. It has to be a good sign if Cashman’s gearing up to pitch New York to Amber. Hopefully, Cashman will get lucky on the third date.

Update 11:30 p.m.: Dan Graziano has a very optimistic report about this meeting. I’m not counting my chickens before they hatch, but this seems like a rather promising development right now.

Well, it’s hard not to see this development as a positive. 3 meetings in 3 days, and this one in SF? Could this happen sooner than we thought?

  • MP

AHHH!! i’m pumped! GO GET ‘EM CASHMAN!

  • Joey H

After 3 dates you got to get laid! Third time is a charm so they say.

    • RustyJohn

So does that mean that Cashman is going to hook up with Amber? That might not win over CC’s heart, unless he’s a big perv.

  • Mike Popavero

    This is kind of awesome

    • Manimal

You weren’t here on RAB during the Johan sweepstakes? That was crazier than this. Everyone had a different opinion on that.

      • Mike Popavero

        Heh, Im glad I was’nt

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Ben K.

We still all argue the Johan situation. It’s kind of nuts.

          • Mike Popavero

All Yankee fans like us do. Im okay with it not happening as I believe Phil is the real deal. Plus now if we get CC its all worth it

            • Steve H

The last line is the key

CC+Hughes+Kennedy+whoever else > Johan (including the one year wait)

It’s a big if, but will be worth it if it goes down like this.

          • Manimal

            haha good point.

    • The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Did you switch your commenting name to your surname? How formal of you.

      • http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/CRsmithT1.jpg tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Mr. Snarky Irrelevant Non Sequitur Jones a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

        Pppphhh… what a lightweight.

        • The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Oops, you’ve been using your surname for a while now. My bad.

  • Manimal

Enough with the reports and meetings. Just get it done Cash.

  • http://www.consumerenergyreport.com/ Lancer

    Facts:

    1) 3rd meeting in 3 days
    2) Meeting with not just CC now, also visiting with the wifey
    3) Leaving the action behind in Vegas just to meet with them

Add it all together and things are beginning to look a lot better. C’mon Ca$h you could do it.

    • andrew

      almost there…

  • http://chucknoblog.blogspot.com Mike NYY

    Probably wonb’t know until morning

  • http://actyankee.blogspot.com Matt

Hopefully this isn’t a “four date Reid” situation.

    • steve (different one)

      well done.

  • Mike Popavero

This can be great or horrible
    1. He says he is interested and his wife is okay with it (you know what I mean) and he says just give me a little more time or he signs right there (cross my fingers)

    2. He says I cant play you anymore and we arent interested in your offer anymore

    • Mike Pop

Wow that wierd I typed in my full last name..

      Remember the Name !!

      • A.D.

I did that once… there is one post on RAB with my real name

        • http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/CRsmithT1.jpg tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Mr. Snarky Irrelevant Non Sequitur Jones a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I did that once… there is one post on RAB with my real name

          Andy Dick?

    • Steve H

Option #2 wouldn’t have taken a face to face in which Cash had to leave the GM meetings to meet in SF. If CC called Cash and Cash flew to SF, I’m sure it wasn’t to be rejected.

      • emac2

        SF isn’t that far away.

It’s just a late dinner date

    • The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

I hate to play the speculation game about this stuff… But I can’t imagine CC and his wife would drag Cashman away from the Winter Meetings, all the way to SF, just to say “thanks but no thanks.” I’m definitely not saying Sabathia’s signing or anything, but this news doesn’t make any sense if the reason for the meeting is for the Sabathia’s to decline the Yankees’ offer.

      • steve (different one)

        gotta agree.

this can only be good news.

doesn’t mean it’s a done deal, but think about buying a car. you only bring your wife to look at it after you’ve made up your mind….j/k.

      • Mike Pop

But to play buzz killington, CC could of requested Cashman meet face to face with Amber. I know it sounds unrealistic but anything can happen with these rumors. Would be messed up on Sabathia’s part to do that

        • The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

I’m not following you here… Why would a request by CC that Cashman come to SF to meet CC’s wife be unrealistic or messed up?

          • Mike Pop

I meant if they said no

        • Steve H

But that’s still not Cash flying in to be rejected. And it’s also not his wife saying No to New York. Maybe he’s convinced, and just needs help nudging her along. But seriously, shouldn’t the person with the $140 million arm be the one that makes the final decision?

          • Mike Pop

She has sex with him though.

            • Steve H

I think CC and his $140 mill in NYC would afford him an opportunity or two to have sex with some decent looking women. Hell, just tell him he can have Jeter’s sloppy seconds (don’t suspend me!) and I’m sure he’d be more than pleased.

          • The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

They are discussing a life-altering move. I think it’s pretty understandable that this is both a career and a family decision.

            • Steve H

Oh I can see it being a family discussion. But in the end, it’s $140mil. If my future wife had a $140 mil offer on the table, I would follow her to all ends of the earth.

          • steve (different one)

i take it you’re not married.

            j/k…

          • Mike

Maybe its like in Dark Knight where he flies to Hong Kong just to reject him, and the guy says “a simple phone call would have sufficed”.

            • Chip

You think CC is planning on kidnapping Cashman and flying him out of the country?

  • 34hughes

hopefully cash finishes this off tonight or tomorrow so he can get back to vegas and stop this peavy to the cubs madness

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Ben K.

Don’t hold your breath on the latter. The fates would have to align just right for Peavy to come to the Yanks, and it’s really been more of a pipe dream than a reality.

      • http://www.consumerenergyreport.com/ Lancer

Where are all the Peavy rumors coming from? It almost sounds like the “Peavy Rumor Mill” hired A-Rod’s media spokesman to keep dropping hints about it or something. The thing doesn’t make sense, but it won’t go away.

  • 34hughes

you never know remember its the cubs they tend to screw this things up

    • Manimal

You know, like the last 100 years.

  • The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Word is that Sabathia and his wife are meeting with Brian Cashman in the San Francisco area sipping cocktails with Brian Sabean in the Haight while laughing about how the Sabathias ditched Brian Cashman while Mr. Cashman used the restroom after his plane arrived at San Francisco International Airport tonight. (I must stress that’s unconfirmed, but talk is spreading fast.)

    /Baggarly’d

  • http://chucknoblog.blogspot.com Mike NYY

Would Sabathia and his wife have Cash come all the way to California just to say no? I doubt it.

Unless the price for Peavy has dropped considerably then no thanks, I`ll settle for Lowe?

    • Mike Popavero

Lol Cash gets there and this happens

CC: Thank you for the offer I am just not interested in joining your organization

Cash: Could’nt you have done this with a phone call ?

      • Brooklyn Ed

that would be F up. lol

      • http://poormansanalyst.wordpress.com/ dan

        Cashman: [slaps CC's wife]

        • Mike Pop

          Cashman: [slaps CC's wife]

CC then calls Theo and signs with the Sox haah

          • Ivan

And CC goes to Boston and first words he says are:

“Hey, where are all the black people”.

            • Mike Pop

“You lied to me Theo, you said you were going to acquire Cameron, why would you do that?”

              • Ivan

Then CC look at the stats and notices that the NBA players on the celtics make up the blk population in Boston.

                • Mike Pop

He’s like man I fucked up

                • Ivan

                  lol.

                • http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/CRsmithT1.jpg tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Mr. Snarky Irrelevant Non Sequitur Jones a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Then CC look at the stats and notices that the NBA players on the celtics make up the blk population in Boston.

Vince Wilfork’s kinda fat, he should count for two more black people, right?

        • steve (different one)

you shut your mouth when you’re talking to me!!

        • http://mvn.com/milb-yankees Eric

          CC: [eats Cashman]

      • steve (different one)

        hilarious.

and then Sabathia rips off his mask and he’s Peter Gammons. Sabathia is tied up in his trunk.

        • Mike Pop

Lmao he had a fat suit on and somehow looked just like CC. Its that Red Sock black magic

  • 34hughes

no hughes montero or romine involved peavy deal must be made

    • http://poormansanalyst.wordpress.com/ dan

why do you keep saying that?

Peavy has said he will not play for the Yankees, and Kevin Towers confirmed that. Not that they’re not his first choice… he said they are NOT a choice.

      • A.D.

        http://blogs.suntimes.com/full.....a_cub.html

        Also posted before by RAB

He said expected to be traded to the Yankees if not the Cubs, and given he has full no trade he can decide that

        • steve (different one)

no offense meant to you, but that Peavy “article” is little more than hearsay…it’s a blog whose source is “a friend of mine was in a bar in Vegas and heard Peavy say Go Cubs!”

after all of the false rumors we heard in just the last 24 hours, i would say there is almost no chance of this being true.

not trying to kill the messenger….just sayin’

          • A.D.

oh i agree, i meant to include that its “my friend”, but net in net Peavy has the no-trade, he’s not going anywhere he doesnt want to pitch

    • http://chucknoblog.blogspot.com Mike NYY

I`m okay if its one of them, even Hughes+Romine would be fine, lets not get crazy.

However, if the package includes more than one of Hughes/Jackson/Montero then no way.

    • http://poormansanalyst.wordpress.com/ dan
  • A.D.

Maybe Cash is going to San Fran to pull the offer off the table in front of CCs wife just to show they mean business!!!1!!

NO MORE BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF

    • http://poormansanalyst.wordpress.com/ dan

He’s making him an offer he can’t refuse.

    • The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

You just warmed the cockles of Francesa’s heart.

    • steve (different one)

at dinner, you will say that you have to go the bathroom. ask for permission to go.

there will be a gun taped to the back of the toilet tank.

when you come out, come out firing. 2 bullets each in the head. take no chances.

when you are done, let the gun fall out of your hand, like this. then walk out. don’t look at anyone, but don’t look away either.

      • http://www.freewebs.com/ps3tf2/ Double-J

I don’t want Cashman coming out of that toilet with just that contract in his hands…

      • Eric

Hal: You know what to do after you shoot?
Brian: I sit down. Finish my meal.

    • Steve H

This is not what I want (and obviously not what’s going to happen), but that would be classic.

I bet he’d throw a big kiss on CC’s wife too while they both broke down in tears and Cash the badass walked out $140 mil in hand.

      • http://poormansanalyst.wordpress.com/ dan

I don’t think Cashman brought $140MM in his carry-on bag.

        • Steve H

He brought it in like a drug mule………

          • http://poormansanalyst.wordpress.com/ dan

“Uh, CC, do you take travelers checks?”

  • Noone important

I think this meeting might be to just tell his wife about new york but i hope its more than tht

  • http://poormansanalyst.wordpress.com/ dan

What if A-Rod were a free agent and had Cashman do this (fly to his home)? Would Cashman have to pitch NY to Madonna? That’d be awkward.

  • Brooklyn Ed

Ben Sheets to sign with Texas?

Nolan Ryan says the Rangers examined Sheets’ medical records and determined he’s healthy. Sheets seems to have mutual interest, though the Rangers would need to move players to fit him in the payroll.

    http://www.dallasnews.com/shar.....37148.html

this can’t be good. Cashman has to get on it once he gets back to Vegas.

    • http://poormansanalyst.wordpress.com/ dan

They have boatloads of young pitching, I don’t see that happening.

    • Steve H

Yeah, get back to Vegas before the Rangers can clear any payroll and piss of the Brewers by signing both Sheets and CC. Selig would immediately create some anti-Yankee legislation.

      • Chip

But the Brewers would get both of their first round picks if they signed both!

        • steve (different one)

you are paying attention. i like that.

    • A.D.

Yankees are reportedly ready to offer in the 24-30m range for a 2 yr deal. Texas has interest.

Makes me think the Yanks are on top of this one

      • UWS

Yeah, I’m pretty sure Cash can multitask (and has a bunch of minions to help out as well).

        • Bryan

I’ll rather take Sheets for 2 years than AJ for 5

      • Brooklyn Ed

proably Ryan will top it, you never know.

        • andrew

but they already said they cant top it without moving payroll, the yankees offer will be on the table before texas can do that

          • Mike Pop

I dont get why he would want to pitch there anyways.. But obviously I dont know too much bout Sheets and his lifestyle

  • Mike Pop

Look at that, Moreno says they are not in the CC picture at all. Gammons damn you !

    • Steve H

Yeah, just saw that myself. And maybe CC did too.

  • BigBlueAL

If Cashman gets CC to sign with the Yankees, the Knicks should hire Cash in 2010 to get Lebron. Man tonight’s Knicks loss was a tough one, but its nice that they are competitive enuff and close enuff to the 8th seed that Knick games matter at least. If only Nate was healthy….

Sorry back to the Yankees, go get’em Cash!!!!

  • 34hughes

well moreno just said the angels are not going after cc

  • Frank

    This could easily be:

CC – my wife and family aren’t into it. i can’t do it
Cash – can I have one last chance to talk to them face to face?
CC – sure, but I don’t think that will help. but with the money that is on the table, I owe you that much

If CC needs another man to convince his wife his should play in NY, we are screwed.

    • Noone important

if they really wanted to get through to his wife they would send jeter

      • Chip

        Through, not in

      • Frank

Jeter is already there. Cash is going to pick him up. Deal is done.

      • BigBlueAL

w/o any clothes on……sorry couldnt resist saying that.

        • Noone important

somewhat a given, how do you think we got arod?

          • Noone important

nah thts a lil to far

  • Steve H

Could be, but I would think the odds of that are much smaller than this being a positive meeting.

    • Frank

I know, but I’m getting more and more negative about this everyday. My impatience is getting in the way of my thinking.

      • Mike Pop

It is affecting more than just you

  • Chip

Awesome, I’d like to wake up tomorrow for work and see that he’s signed

    • Mike Pop

Idk if I can go to sleep tonight

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Ben K.

You don’t think you can go to sleep? I have a test at 10 am, and I need to go to sleep. But this is pretty big news.

        • Brooklyn Ed

dont let all this CC rumors ruin your test. its more imporant. you are our future lawyer. LOL.

          • http://www.riveraveblues.com Ben K.

Hah. At this point, I either know it or I don’t. So I’m just taking the “relax before bed” approach. Whether or not waiting on CC is relaxing is something someone else can debate.

          • Noone important

I can see it now, Question 1: What is CC Sabathias weight?

            Ben K: Judge, I’d like to move for a … bad-court thingy.
            Judge: You mean a “mistrial”?
            Ben K: Yes.

        • Mike Pop

I have a test at 8 am but obviously yours is much much harder

  • http://www.consumerenergyreport.com/ Lancer

Seems like things are really beginning to move forward.

Ca$h hops on a flight to San Fran, leaving the Vegas scene… now Moreno comes out and says that the Angels aren’t going after CC….

    • Noone important

well the flight to san fran from vegas is just under 1 and a half hours so figure 3 hours in flight back an forth, and a cuple hours there, plus traveling to mcdonalds to bribe him figure hell be back at 5 in the mornning with some good news

    • Mike Pop

      Moreno scared of Cashman ?

  • http://chucknoblog.blogspot.com Mike NYY

I doubt we`ll hear any more Yankees rumors tonight with Cash on a plane to California. I also doubt anything major will happen. I`ll probably go in the next few minutes.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Ben K.

      Agreed.

    • http://www.consumerenergyreport.com/ Lancer

It’s not a long flight from Vegas to San Fran. If it’s a serious meeting now, things will happen lighting fast. The money is there, way above what any other team is prepared to pay. All we’re waiting for is the decision…

      • Reggie C.

Hopefully its a good one. Its one thing for us to disagree on which free agent the Yanks should target. That’s fine and healthy. What’s not cool is to see a targeted free agent spurn the Yanks even though the Yank offer is far & away superior to the field. We can’t have the latter happen b/c it diminshes the pinstripes.

    • Chip

They could accept it tonight. I mean if the first two meetings were to convince CC, maybe the only person that still has doubts is the wife. Cashman goes and gets her approval and it gets hammered out tonight

  • http://poormansanalyst.wordpress.com/ dan

No clue if this means anything at all, but Sheets lives in Texas–a half hour from Arlington.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Sheets

    • Steve H

As much as CC being from California might mean.

  • Noone important

My predictions, Lowe a redsock, Burnett a Yankee, Pettite a Yankee, and Sheets a ranger, as for CC, must i even type it?

    • Chip

I’d be surprised if we signed CC, Burnett and Pettite. I guess I don’t see us throwing that much money around if we already have CC. I’d think Sheets was more likely.

I’ll go Sheets, CC and Pettite are Yankees, Burnett is a Brave and Lowe a Red Sox

    • http://chucknoblog.blogspot.com Mike NYY

      My Predictions:

      Texiera- Angels
      Lowe- NYY
      Burnett- Boston
      Sabathia- NYY
      Sheets- Texas
      Dunn- Nationals

    • Manimal(on iPod)

lowe a phillie, Burnett a brave, Cc a yank, sheets a yank, tex a angel, and manny a nat

      • http://poormansanalyst.wordpress.com/ dan

        manny a national? really?

        • Chip

I agree with the Manny a National idea. It’d put people in the seats (maybe)

    • whozat

If they have CC and Pettitte, I’d honestly rather have them direct any remaining budget towards a bat and a second-tier starter. At that point, you’re signing a 4/5 guy. You REALLY don’t need to blow your wad on Burnett.

If Sheets is there, go for it. But if CC and Pettitte are on board…honestly, spend DRASTICALLY less money on someone like Paul Byrd or Randy Wolfe, expecting Hughes/Kennedy/Aceves/Horne/Coke/etc to push him out of the rotation come July. Then bring in a CF stopgap, if possible, or a corner of/1b bat if not.

Or go whole-hog on Tex and fill the 5th slot internally.

      • Mike Pop

You don’t bring in Paul Byrd under any circumstance

  • JeffG

Only one explanation Cash has pics of CC nailing a Vegas hooker. Big boy is trying to cut him off before he gets to the house. He’ll sign.

Anyways, seriously, I think this sounds like the deal is getting done. Knock on wood…

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Ben K.

This is CC Sabathia we’re talking about and not Senator Pat Geary you know. The Yanks can’t send Tom Hagen out to SF to clean up.

      • http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/CRsmithT1.jpg tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Mr. Snarky Irrelevant Non Sequitur Jones a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Wait, I thought Brian Cashman was Tom Hagen?

Didn’t we nail this list down already?

  • http://chucknoblog.blogspot.com Mike NYY

Oh, and Pettite to the Yanks

  • Mike Pop

Apparently Melvin is flying out to CC’s home too.

Cashman: (walks in the front door)Wait… What the hell are you doing here Melvin !!!!? Is this some kind of joke CC??

Melvin: (spits up his alcohol) What, what the hell is he doing here CC ?!?!?!

CC: (drops 2 wooden sticks on the floor in front of them) Duel and whoever wins is the team I will sign with

  • Ivan

Cash must of promise CC that in the contract, he will get a free supply of Popeye’s Chicken. CC just couldn’t resist.

    • Eric

Come on. Aren’t the fat/eating jokes getting a little old?

      • Ivan

Wait til he sign with the yanks. It’s gonna be freakin cool.

Besides, I think CC is cool dude, he wouldn’t mind.

        • Mike Pop

I would love to see a few shutouts a year from this guy.. I wanna see Francesca eat his words

          • Ivan

            Francesca was dissing CC?

            • Mike Pop

I could not beleive it either..Lol

But in all seriousness it was ridic today, like 3 or 4 hours just the same shit. I might call up one day

              • Ivan

I was working so I often don’t hear his shows. What he said?

PS: Don’t call that fat fuck so he can feel important.

                • Mike Pop

He just constantly bashed him, said he was embarrasing/playing the Yankees. He obviously does not want to be here. He was like I sign Sheets, Lowe, Penny, and Manny.. Lets go to war

                  Francesca is a moron.

At least with Russo, he’s a moron, but he was an entertaining moron.

            • Reggie C.

Francesca saw it from an angle that Cash was practically begging Sabathia to join the ball club. Thats what sat bad with Francesca. He hated the idea that Cash had to “sell” the idea of playing in NY. It was a rant but i think Francesca ultimately felt that it demeaned the ball club.

I am not one of those PC overly sensitive people, but that statement could be very easily misconstrued as racist. See: Fuzzy Zoeller.

      • Chip

That’s right! I forgot that only black people like chicken

        • Mike R.

I am a light skinned Puerto Rican and I love me some Popeye’s! I was not the least bit offended but I think someone could be. It has nothing to do with who else likes chicken. It has to do with stereotypes.

With a name like Chip I bet you like chicks with bangs and hummus!

Not so nice when the shoe is on the other foot huh? ;)

      • Ivan

        I know.

As I was writing it, I was like that sounds a tad “harsh”

Meh, I’m not offended. And I’m one of the most angriest-blackest-manest guys on here.

Cashman flew to San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon to meet with Sabathia and his wife at the pitcher’s request.

First off, he left in the afternoon so the meeting is or has already taken place by now. Second, yet another meeting at CC’s request which is also a positive sign.

I just have to say this: however this offseason turns out, these rumor threads have produced some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever read, either on RAB or elsewhere. You fine folks have made long working days bearable. So, kudos.

Now back to your scheduled snark.

    • andrew

      agreed.
“River Ave Blues: Getting us Through College”
      new slogan perhaps?

    • Mike Pop

I agree, there has been some really funny shit posted on here especially tommie.. That guy is hilarious

10:57pm: Heyman says the Yankees’ topped the Braves offer for Burnett by a few million dollars. He says the Yanks apparently will attempt to sign all three top free agent starters – C.C. Sabathia, Derek Lowe, and Burnett

    • Ivan

      I seriously doubt that.

Pettitte is alot better investment than Lowe. Plus, if ATL goes 5 years on the contract, I think the yanks back out especially if they have CC locked up.

      • Mike Pop

Ill take CC, Burnett or Sheets, and Pettite.. Forget about Lowe. Burnett or Sheets is just a bonus. When they are healthy we will have the best rotation and while they are not Hughes steps in and we are still filthy

        • Mike Pop

Sucks to eliminate Tex like that though

  • Noone important

    that means no pettite?

  • Michael

The Mets sign K-Rod. You how the Yankees love to steal the back page of the paper from the mets. Go get him Cash!!!

  • 34hughes

oh no cash dont ruin the day by making dumb offers to burnett and lowe

    • Noone important

you cant have em all, sadly in this case we do

  • Ivan

While the movie “ATL” sucks, it’s worth watching if you wanna see Lauren London’s fine self. That’s a cutie.

I just hope Cashmen just comes back to vegas with CC signed. The Yanks will finally have that #1 front of the line starter that they so desperately need!
