Torre: Pettitte not coming to LA

With Yanks looming, Braves pushing for A.J.
Open Thread: A theoretical expansion draft

Joe Torre doesn’t think Andy Pettitte is coming to Los Angeles, and an interview with Newsday’s Ken Davidoff, the former Yankee manager said that the Yankees remain Andy Pettitte’s top choice. I think it’s pretty safe, right now, to say that the Yanks made the right move in not offering Andy arbitration. He’ll be back in the Bronx. It just depends upon which side blinks first.

good ol torre. this is welcome news. i still like to see his name come up on here every once in awhile.

Yankees want him for 10 million.
    Andy wants 16 million.
Spit the difference 13 million and Andy ends his career as a Yankee in the new stadium.

What’s so hard RAB has been calling this for a month

      • Steve H

We need to hurry up and sign CC and Burnett and Lowe and Manny and Dunn. Poor TSJC is wilting away to nothing, he hasn’t eaten in months. Somebody please do something to get this man’s burrito out of the fucking microwave!!!!!!!!

        • UWS

Or just buy him a new fucking microwave, this one sucks!!!!

Cashman: Sorry, Andy, our offer is 10M.
      Andy: I want 16M.
Cashman: Well, we disagree on the number.
      Andy: Yup.
Cashman: I don’t know what to do in a situation like this.
      Andy: Me neither.
Cashman: Although… hold on a sec, lemme check something… Hey, this awesome website called “RiverAveBlues.com” says we should just “split the difference”.
Andy: “Split the difference”, what the fuck does that mean?
Cashman: Yeah, right here, read this post by “mustang”… I think he means we can just pick the number midway between our two numbers, and agree on that.
      Andy: You can do that?
      Cashman: Apparently so.
Andy: I didn’t know that was allowed.
Cashman: Yeah, seems like a real time saver.
Andy: Did this concept just get created or something?
Cashman: No, mustang seems to be saying that they’ve been calling for this “splitting the difference” idea for like a month now.
Andy: Huh. We shoulda looked at this “RiverAveBlues.com” site-thingie a while ago.
      Cashman: Yeah, totally.
Andy: So, then, we gonna do this thing?
      Cashman: Sure, why not?
Andy: Good. That’s settled, then. I’m gonna go grab some HGH. You want anything?
Cashman: No, I’m going to go make love to some Excel spreadsheets and be a pencil-necked little dweeb, I’m good.
Andy: Have it your way, I guess. Nice doing business with you… NERD!!!

Ok I know your making fun of me, but you even had my wife laughing.
Dude, get off the net and make this into a career.
        FUCKING FUNNY you’re too much.

        • Chris C.

“Ok I know your making fun of me……..”

And in grand style, too. That was one of the funniest things I’ve ever read!

“……..but you even had my wife laughing.”

Huh? Are you now going out of your way to give Tommie new material??

  • J.R.

I think these interviews by Andy and Torre are the blink we are looking for.

Think about it, Andy saying he wants to come back and NY is where he wants to pitch really cuts down the negotiating position his agents have.

Torre even more so. I think he was using the threat of LA and Huston as negotiating ploys. Huston doesnt have the money and Torre doesn’t even think he’ll pitch in LA.

  • Murph1010

Ben, I have been having problems lately with the site loading as a blank white screen and every toolbar on the sides of the screen jammed and crunched on the far left side… any idea what this is?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Ben K.

Nope. Need more info though. E-mail me operating system and browser type and a screenshot if possible. E-mail address in the lefthand sidebar.

    • Miles Roche

Yeah, Murph. I know what you mean. I have it every once in a while accessing RAB from my mobile phone . . .

Ken Davidoff is like Peter Gammons they are never right on any thing/

I trust Jon Heyman predictions more.

    • steve (different one)

perhaps, but all he is doing is printing Torre’s quotes.

This is the equivilant of firing Stevie Wonder as your driver because he was all over the road, then replacing him with Ray Charles.

I wonder/hope that Pettite will have really been driven by Moose’s last year to have a kind of final stamp on his career. Coming back from late last season woes + new ballpark + going out on a high note as a Yankee will probably mean he is able to really have a good season (lack of steroid distraction and a defensive upgrade here or there will probably help too).

    • J.R.

I think alot of Pettitte’s 2nd half troubles were injury related. Moose’s 07 troubles were related to diminshed stuff and needing to change his pitching mentallity. And really not comparable.

But I do agree that a distraction free offseason (well at elast besides FA) will help him focus.

      • kimonizer

I can see what you’re saying, especially since Pettitte has already made a change or two in his approach in his career (i.e. mix of cutters, fastballs, and breaking pitches) and has relatively good arm strength still. It would be great to see him come out and put up a 17 or 18 win season, which I think he is still capable of if the rest of the team is in the right groove. Think of where we would have been last year without Moose’s renaissance.

    • Chris C.

“I wonder/hope that Pettite will have really been driven by Moose’s last year to have a kind of final stamp on his career.”

Ahh, but what if every opposing starter who faces the Yankees is driven by Moose’s last year?
Did I just blow your mind with that quagmire?

they are selling various player’s underwear such as AROD and Youklis.

You know ARODS will be squeky clean, maybe they can up the price if they sell some with madonna residue, but boy oh boy would youk’s underpants be gritty,,,full of skids…yellow on the front brown on the back

sure everyone will love this tidbit from jayson stark….at least they have acknowledged he is alive –then again its an espn report

“There’s increasing buzz about the Yankees’ interest in Ben Sheets, possibly an indication that they’re not confident they’re going to be able to sign Burnett. As this blog noted two weeks ago, the difference between Burnett’s and Sheets’ 2008 and career numbers are smaller than you’d think”
    Jayson Stark

    • Steve H

Not sure how truthful this can be. Unless that is, Sheets was seen eating a Big Apple recently.

        • steve (different one)

he ordered the clam chowder, but NO ONE KNOWS if it was the Manhattan or the Boston clam chowder

Jayson Stark is going to investigate.

He had two drinks: a Long Island Iced Tea AND a Cape Codder. And Baked Alaska for dessert, just to throw us all off the scent.

No truth to the rumor that he asked for Rice-A Roni with his clam chowder.

            • UWS

He had a Manhattan at the bar before he sat down to eat, though. Hmmmm….
