Indians to sign Mark Reynolds
ByAccording to multiple reports, the Indians have agreed to sign Mark Reynolds to a one-year contract worth $6M plus incentives. He’s going to play first base for them.
The Yankees reportedly had some interest in Reynolds for their third base vacancy, but more importantly the signing figures to impact the Tribe’s pursuit of Kevin Youkilis. New York has a one-year, $12M offer out to the former Red Sox, and the Indians were their biggest competition due to their two-year offer and Terry Francona. This is no guarantee Youkilis will sign with the Yankees, but it certainly increases the odds of that happening.

Would have rather had Reynolds for 1yr 6m than Youk for 1yr 12m that’s for sure.
The options are quite slim now.
To use the vernacular…this ain’t good…A-Rod continues to hurt the Yanks even when he is not playing…wow…sad really.
Reynolds is kind of a disaster at 3B, and I think (hope) that 2013 payroll is irrelevant, so I don’t know that I agree that Reynolds would be a better half-year fulltime 3B, and then backup 3B/1B than Youk.

Funny thing is, Youk at this point of his career might still be better than Pagliarulo at his best.
Saw this somewhere the other day, and even though it’s a questionable decision, is there anyway the yanks can move cano over to 3b just to start the year? Nunez at 2b would have to decrease his throwing errors as well. I know it won’t happen, but it’s an idea that I don’t think is being floated around as much as it probably should be.
I can assure you that will not happen this year.

What are plans for David Adams if he isn’t traded? Putting up numbers and no place if cano stays.
He’s been playing 3B. I’m a big Adams fan, but still got to wonder about the ankle and getting some AAA time is unlikely to hurt his development.

Definitely happy the Yanks stayed away from Reynolds. Getting Youk could really turn around this off season pretty quickly.

We wait to see if he strikes out swinging on an 80 MPH fastball right down the middle. Then we check his DNA to see if it’s not just ARod in disguise. If so, we wait three months for an injury to be announced that actually started four months prior.

His playing time is reduced, but given that ARod will be eased back in and there will be ABs at 1B as well, there would still be playing time. Also, given his health issues, it’s no given that he won’t need DL time.
He continues to play third while A-Rod’s fragile ass DHs 80% of the time.
I am guessing you are not aware that Youk has missed more games over the past 3 seasons than a rod, huh…

You are the reason I hate people before they prove they should be liked instead of the other way around. Not people like you. You in particular. If you are actually a Yankee fan, you are the reason the rest of the league hates our fan base. If you aren’t a Yankee fan you are the reason that the base of Yankee fans is defensive or outright dislike other baseball fans.
Reasons:
1. You don’t put spaces between your punctuation and the following letter. A 14 year old should be able to type properly, regardless of what device you are using.
2. You blindly hate a player on the team you allegedly route for because of the money he makes.
3. You would gladly accept taking on a lesser player to play the position of the objectively better player just because you don’t like the better one.
4. Your blind hatred for A-Rod blinds you to the fact that even in his current state (if not in need of the surgery) he is still probably at worst better than 50% of other people who play that position
5. You want to give a guy who gets hurt more than our most injured player 2 years.
6. You use the fact you watch games live as a reason for something. I could watch the Large Hadron Collider operate 1000 times live. Outside of the basics, I would still have no idea how it works.

Agreed 100%, my parents refuse to switch because IO is “good enough” and they don’t feel like learning new channels. When I move out (hopefully by summer) I plan on getting Fios if it fits in my budget.
That’s funny you say that. During Sandy, my neighbors who have comcast and Fios all lost their TV/internet even the ones with generators.

Reynolds was never the right match as an Alex fill-in or backup. Not good defensively and beyond streaky at the bat.
Let’s see what happens with Youk. Would much rather have a solid veteran hand who could hit in his sleep in this slot.

Why wouldn’t that player be starting somewhere else, probably on a multi-year deal? Several teams are looking for someone to hold down 3B.
Also we already have a Mark on the team. No Kevin’s though.

Agree, Reynolds strikes out too much and can’ t field. Youkalis is a much better fit. Love the DH First Base Third base trio when Arod comes back. Ichiro jeter cano tex Arod Youk grandy catcher and Grady not bad.
I’d rather have Youkilis over Reynolds too, but I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration of his abilities at this point in his career, though I am hoping for a bit of an offensive rebound from him.
You guys are probably reading a tiny bit too much into what I’m saying. I’m talking more experience than expected results, although many of the vets the Yanks have brought in who have been described as past their prime have at least had some pretty big moments. I realize he’s a declined and fragile player.
Reynolds is not streaky. He strikes out at a pretty consistent rate.
No big deal. Reynolds could have never given the Yankees what they need at 3rd base. He would have been nice as righty side of the DH platoon and back up 1B but Youk would be a much fit.

$6 million is a little lower than I thought he’d get, but I’m glad it’s not the Yankees. Youkilis isn’t such a bad idea, but I wonder if they might try to lower their offer a touch now with possibly less competition.
Since they don’t have to worry about the celery cap in 2013, I hope they just get the deal done and don’t fuck it up over an insignificant amount of money.
I really believe they’re gonna need a guy who can give you 100-120 games at 3rd base though the resident RAB maniac commenter in the Ichiro thread attacked me for that thinking insisting that Arod is gonna be back, healthy and able to play 3rd base for a large portion of the season.

Still not a huge fan of signing Youk. I understand he’s the best option though. It’s like being a vegetarian starving on a desert island and be offered a rotting T-Bone steak. Sure you’re going to eat it because it’s better than starving to death, and you’re going to hope that it tastes something like the T-Bone steak it used to be, and you’re going to be grateful for the sustenance it gives you…but you’re still not going to be happy about having to eat it.

I’m guessing Wil Myers is 100% involved, but the fact that the Rays wanted more than just the 1 prospect for Shields — and Davis is supposedly included — makes it sound like it’d be a bit more intriguing than originally expected. I wonder who else will be going to Tampa.
Well Wade Davis is a nice pitcher, but he sure as hell isn’t great. I mean, up until going into the bullpen this season he was your basic 160IP 4+ERA starter and in the bullpen he was good but good bull pen arms are really a dime a dozen. The Yankees got good years out of Luis Ayala and Corey Wade for example.
Davis is dirt cheap. I think he’s $3 mil a year, not including options after the guaranteed part is up. A pitcher who can give you 170-180 innings with a 4 ERA for only $3 mil a year is a steal. The fact that he’s cost controlled is what makes him appealing to the Royals. This is a sly move, assuming they didn’t give up too much after Myers. I still think it would have been nice for them to keep Myers because a guy of his caliber is just…exciting. I’m honestly a bit nervous about the thought of Myers in Tampa. I don’t mind them losing Shields, though. He was great for them, and we seemed to always hit him around a bit, but losing him weakens that rotation big time. Yay.
That’s true…at that price he’s the perfect back end guy…but if I’m a Rays fan I have no problem giving him up as part of the trade to get Myers.

Interesting. For a team building like the Royals, parting with Myers is huge, but getting two years of Shields and another strong arm in Davis is probably worth the risk. They have difficulty getting pitchers.
