Angels claim Chris Nelson off waivers from Yankees

Game 43: Beat the Jays
2013 Draft: Marco Gonzales

Via Bill Shaikin: The Angels have claimed Chris Nelson off waivers from the Yankees. New York designated the infielder for assignment when David Adams was called up this past week.

Nelson, 27, hit .222/.243/.278 (36 wRC+) in 37 plate appearances for the Yankees after being acquired from the Rockies earlier this month. He finished up his tenure with the team with a nice little 8-for-26 (.308) road trip. The Yankees acquired infielder Reid Brignac from the Rockies earlier today, replacing Alberto Gonzalez.

In an corresponding move, the Angels have designated Josh Hamilton for assignment.

Arte Moreno attempted to DFA both Hamilton and Albert Pujols. Then he was told he’d still have to pay them all of the money in their contracts.

      Moreno ponders…

    meh

  • Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting)

Thought he could have been more useful long-term than Benny Boy, but meh.

Cashman attempts to improve this team with small moves. Releasing Nelson when Adams was eligible to be brought up. Adams looks to be an improvement on Nelson’s offerings. Brignac should be a nice replacement off the bench with occasional spot starts. If this team is still playing well when Teix. and Youklis come back. There will be some tough decisions to be made.

Nice win today with Adams,Romine and Phelps on the field.
