• The Yankees are trying to turn Tyler Wade into a super utility player. Dustin Fowler is working on his plate discipline this spring. No one has a leg up in the rotation competition.
• Last weekend the Yankees had a scout watching both the Nationals and Astros. The Yankees signed Ernesto Frieri to a minor league contract. He’s in the mix for a bullpen spot.
• Injury Update: Austin Romine (hand) was hit by a foul tip and is expected back soon. X-rays came back negative.
• Among the roster cuts this week were Jorge Mateo, Mason Williams, James Kaprielian, Miguel Andujar, and Chance Adams. Kaprielian did pitch in a Grapefruit League game before being sent across the street.
• The Yankees agreed to 2017 contracts with Greg Bird ($545,500) and Aaron Judge ($544,500). They were not renewed a la Dellin Betances last year.
