Fun with Joba-related Google searches

September 17, 2007 by Benjamin Kabak 14 Comments

At 10:27 p.m., someone from the New England area landed on River Ave. Blues by searching Google for “Joba chamberlain ass hole.” First, it’s one word, genius. Second, bitter much, Red Sox Nation?

Don’t throw near the Red Sox, and other lessons from Baltimore

Major League Baseball has suspended Daniel Cabrera of the Orioles for throwing behind Dustin Pedroia. Supposedly, Cabrera’s toss behind little Dustin’s head was intentional, but I’m thinking the Red Sox are getting very good at whining about inside (or behind-the-head) pitches. Remember that Joba incident? How many times did Pedro hit members of the Yankees with no ejection or suspension? Grow a pair, Boston.

You gotta be sh*tting me

The Devil Rays were up by 4 after 1 inning, up by 1 with 3 outs left. But Julio Lugo with his .296 OBP and his .351 slugging percentage, walked to lead off the 9th. One out later, David Ortiz hits a 3-1 pitch into the seats for his second home run of the game, and the Red Sox win 5-4. Ortiz drove in all five runs, and the Devil Rays just made the best case for how utterly worthless they are as a Major League franchise. Pathetic does not even begin to describe this half-assed display of baseball Tampa Bay has put on over their last 18 innings.

6.18

That’s the Devil Rays’ bullpen ERA on the season after they blew a 7-run lead by surrendering 11 runs to the Red Sox tonight. Why is there a franchise in Tampa Bay? And is it even accurate to call this team a “Major League franchise”? Seriously.

Konichiwa, Boston

Remember how the Yankees’ 2005 start in Japan screwed them up for a few weeks? Remember how Mike Mussina whined about it for a while, Kevin Brown came down with a parasite, and the Yanks generally seemed like they were sleepwalking through April? Well, next year, the Red Sox are opening up their season in Japan. This inconvenient trip and a pitcher who is 1-4 with a 9.57 ERA over his last five starts is what the Red Sox get for their $102 million investment.

How’s that working out for ya, Boston?

Rick Ankiel now has more home runs than J.D. Drew in over 300 fewer at-bats. Hah. Another player under Tony LaRussa used illicit drugs. Someone should really pay more attention to one of the game’s greatest steroid enablers.

That sounds about right to me

Forbes.com has named Curt Schilling as one of the ten most despised athletes around. Using such phrases as “a mouthy, attention-getting self-promoter who brags about his work ethic,” the article offers up a profile of the Curt Schilling we know and hate. With a passion.
