Rosenthal: Yankees not interested in Vlad Guerrero
ByVia Ken Rosenthal: The Yankees do not have interest in Vlad Guerrero, who recently switched agents and is willing to accept a minor league deal. The club insists they will temporarily replace Curtis Granderson from within.
Guerrero, 38, played a handful of minor league games with the Blue Jays last year but otherwise has not appeared in the big leagues since 2011 with the Orioles (96 wRC+ in 590 PA). As was the case with Johnny Damon, I think the Yankees should be all over this. They have nothing to lose by bringing Vlad to camp on a minor league contract, and if anything it’ll create some buzz and add excitement to an otherwise mundane camp. He’s a disaster in the outfield these days, which is a bit of a problem, but it’s not like running Juan Rivera out there would be much better.

on a minor league deal what is the downside really….they can’t use the he can’t play defense card when they also have Juan Rivera in camp….maybe Vlad could still hit a little for awhile
As with Damon, no thanks.
Vladimir Guerrero? Of course not. In all cases, I would prefer Damon. Hands down
In other news….water is wet. Sky is blue.
Shouldn’t the title be “Rosenthal: Every team not interested in Vlad Guerrero”?
It’s been a few hours now since the last report….are the Yankees still not interested in Kyle Lohse?
It seems like Yankee management is quite willing to just write this year off.
They’re writing the year off by not going after Vladimir Guerrero?????
Yeah, that’s what not being interested in Vlad says.
Even by your low standards, this is a really dumb comment.
Looks like dalelama is still trying to find his groove in spring training.
Looks like you’ll just have to become a Mets fan!
Whoops, too late.
We do need someone to replace Andru Jones pathetic plate appearances… hmmm
i think 2012 andruw jones is a significant upgrade over 2013 vlad guerrero. sadly.
You mean the first half Andruw Jones. Evidently Mom did not have any good advice for Andruw at the break last year.
Just create a boilerplate headline: Yankees not interested in _______.
Not that I’m questioning their non-interest. Even if he showed he still had some bat, they need someone who can also take the field.
Yep. With Hafner on the team, we don’t need another guy who can’t play the field.
hey…they gotta print something. we’re just the yutzes replying to it
Given how awful he was in the OF last time he played there with Texas, and the fact that he’s now a couple years older than that, I can’t really see how this is a realistic option to pursue even on a minor league deal.
How awesome is Vlad though? He might be the most underrated player of that era
He was awesome, but I don’t remember him as underrated.
If anything, he completely dodged all the criticism leveled at ARod for being a consistently lousy postseason player….
No one remembers this game?

rather have Lisa Guerrero than Vladi.
or Eddie Guerrero.
If we are going to bottom feed on over the hill players, I would rather Lowe.
Cashman likes nice docile boys like the unexciting Juan Rivera, Dan Johnson & Matt Diaz. Something like bringing in Vlad or heaven forbid Manny for a look scares poor Brian terribly especially if they hit and still have something left. God forbid the fans embrace a guy like Vlad then poor Brian will be forced to listen to us rather than do what he wants. He would much rather have a roster full of manageable vanilla guys like Rasner, Karstens and Joshy Phelps than high profile former stars with something left to prove. Winning with mediocrity will get him all the accolades he feels he’s been shortchanged of as the GM of the team that makes the most money in the sport. It’s why we don’t have a catcher. He & G.I. Joe are going to prove that the Yankee way of having an offensively talented backstop is a myth. We’re gonna win with catch & throw guys and we’ll all have to bow down to their brilliance.
lolwut?
Dalelama’s protege?
Brian will be forced to listen to us…
In case you missed it, he’s on record as saying “If I listen to the fans, I’ll wind up sitting with them.”
I don’t think Cash is anywhere near the best GM in the game, but I’m willing to admit that’s he’s forgotten more about baseball than I’ve ever known (and, i’m willing to bet, 99.9% of RAB commenters).
Did you pass out in 2007 and just wake up? What a bizarre comment. Josh Phelps?
That’s fairly psychotic, even by RAB troll standards.
He’s a disaster in the outfield these days, which is a bit of a problem, but it’s not like running Juan Rivera out there would be much better.
this isnt a serious comment is it? no way is there any argument to be made that juan rivera is anything but a noticeable and significant upgrade defensively over vladimir guerrero.
