- The week started with a rained out game in Kansas City, so the Yankees were able to travel to Seattle a few hours early. They took the first game from the Mariners thanks to a late rally, then Masahiro Tanaka threw his second complete game for a win the next day. Chase Whitley chucked a gem to finish off the sweep on Thursday. The rained out game will be made up on August 25th.
- A three-game weekend series in Oakland followed. The Yankees shut the A’s out in the opener before dropping the second game. The Athletics took yesterday’s finale in blowout fashion.
- Injury Updates: CC Sabathia (knee) could throw off a mound this week. RHP Michael Pineda (shoulder) will be out until at least August. He did not suffer a setback, that’s just his realistic timetable. Carlos Beltran (elbow) has started a throwing program in hopes of returning to the outfield. Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) left Thursday’s game with tightness but has since returned to the lineup. Brian Roberts (knee) is day-to-day after a foul ball. Frankie Cervelli (hamstring) will rejoin the team on Tuesday. Slade Heathcott (knee) is getting scoped.
- Shawn Kelley was activated off the disabled list and Matt Daley was sent to Triple-A Scranton. David Huff was re-acquired from the Giants for cash and Heath Bell was signed to a minor league deal. Wade LeBlanc was designated for assignment and eventually elected free agency. Alfredo Aceves accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A.
- The Yankees signed several draft picks, including second rounder LHP Jacob Lindgren (slot $1.02M), third rounder RHP Austin DeCarr (double slot $1M), fourth rounder LHP Jordan Montgomery (unknown bonus), and fifth rounder RHP Jordan Foley (slot $318k). They also have verbal agreements in place with several international prospects.
- Top prospect Gary Sanchez has been benched for the last five Double-A Trenton games for disciplinary reasons.
- Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui will make their Old Timers’ Day debuts this coming weekend.
