Off-Topic

Now that offseason is upon us, it’s time for a fresh thread.

  • Bob Buttons

Spanking new off topic thread, random thought:

Miss baseball, but will enjoy weekend afternoon nap time.

  • Dr. Grenaldine

I remember a few years ago there being a “Rose Rule” in the RAB Guidelines. Anybody remember what that was all about? Totally forgot what it was but remember seeing it there and now it’s gone.

    • Pat D

I don’t remember exactly, but it could mean a few things.

“Rose” was a poster who usually did nothing but hijack threads with non-Yankees, non-baseball related topics. Rose’s chief talking point was about how Ohio was not really a state of the union. Rose also had a tendency to post in a thread with a link to a different thread so that someone would pay attention to it.

Basically, Rose did nothing but troll and demand people pay attention to him.

      • Robinson Tilapia

You wealth of useless information, Patrick.

You can actually hear it echo in here.

        • jjyank

If someone comments in the off topic thread and nobody is around to see it…does it actually post?

      • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Dr. Martin van Nostrand

        August 19, 2010 game thread.

It was a Thursday day game against the Detroit Tigers.

Yes, Rose, a notorious thread-jacker, made a deal about how President Taft, by virtue of being born in Ohio while Ohio was not yet an official state in the U.S., was not a legal president as only those born in states were considered citizens (I guess). The Rose Rule was invoked and that was the end of that.

This post makes me wistful as T/S/J/C was around then and I don’t recall seeing him (and many other great posters from that era) hanging around RAB these days. For me, it’s damned hard to believe it’s been four years since I was derping around here under the surname “Carcillo”. Time freaking flies.

A.J. Pierzynski signed with the Red Sox. The most unlikeable player in Major League Baseball on major league baseball’s most unlikeable team. Fantastic.

    • forensic

I really appreciate it when teams and players take it upon themselves to consolidate my hating interests. It makes things much easier that way.

      • vicki

        like tebow in denver, efficient!

  • I’m One

Mariners appear to be major players for Cano. Guess we’ll find out if the Yankees hold the line they’ve drawn, find a creative way around it, or forget about it all together.

  • Pinkie Pie

Boone Logan just signed with the Rockies. If the Yank’s pen seemed thin before, it really does now.

  • dalelama

Here is an article about the death of the greatest fielding centerfielder of my lifetime. I didn’t know he won two WS rings with the Yanks before I read this article.

    Paul Blair R.I.P.

  • Pinkie Pie

I know it’s Gary Sheffield, but this is an interesting take on why Robinson Cano might have been wiser to stay in New York.

  • Pinkie Pie

Would Tanaka just sign with somebody already? I’m really fucking tired of this waiting game.

  • Angelo

Yankees to sign Tanaka according to MLBTR. 7 years $155M is a big commitment… Opt out after year 4.

Ugh, sorry about the duplicate comments

  • Tanuki Tanaka (Formerly Bob Buttons)

Not that any cares but I for some reason thought there was 31 days in February for the past few days.

    • forensic

Looks like you picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue.

These off-topic threads are a ghost town now a days

    • Tanuki Tanaka

Closer to a ghost ranch than a town.

  • Kevin G.

I wonder how many times I can post before someone notices me. Like I could probably post nudity and shit, but it wouldn’t be caught for like 6 months.

  • Kevin G.

    I’m so lonely here.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Dr. Martin van Nostrand

There were eight off-topic threads that opened and closed within 2010 alone.

The last one spanned 25 months.

The last post here was made over two months ago.

    :(

    :(

    • Tanuki Tanaka

A lot of folks have forgotten that we have an off-topic thread.

Also doesn’t help that recent seasons are a tad more depressing.

  • vicki

    i miss pi&ntildeata.

  • Shame Spencer

Alright I’m planting myself here to entertain the masses.

    • Tanuki Tanaka

Tell a joke! Do a little dance! Sing something!
No, seriously. Got a good joke you’d like to share?

  • Shame Spencer

@Joelsherman1: Been told #Rays are definitely moving Price

    • Deep Thoughts

DAMMIT NO BASEBALL! THIS IS THE OFF-TOPIC THREAD.

      • Deep Thoughts

        :( Just kidding. Baseball’s cool I guess.

  • Ethan

This is way off topic but I have an interview with a consulting firm on Tuesday. I haven’t had case based interviews before. I’m going through a book on them but does anyone have any advice/tips? Maybe someone that works or has worked for a consulting firm?

    • I’m One

So, how’d the interview go? Obviously no one here provided much assistance.

  • hey now

How crazy is it that if you visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame you’ll see one of Beyonce’s leotards, but nothing to memorialize Stevie Ray Vaughan?

I refuse to take that place seriously.

Day 1 after the comment section nuclear armageddon. Is our mini-society better? Will it end up being worse? Will Stairs Cabral be too lazy to temporarily change his visible nickname? Only history will tell.

Meanwhile, I’ll be here in my fall out shelter, waiting for outside contact.

There once was a site called RAB
Where Yankees fans would come chat and blab
    And then one night
Mike has saw one too many fight
So he nuked the comments to keep tab.

  • yanks61

Speaking of nuking the comments, does anyone know if Lohud has done exactly that to ALL comments. Even with the new FB format, there are now zero comments on any of Chad’s posts since, I think, 01 August. Just curious if Lohud is no longer allowing comments for the moment or people just aren’t commenting at all (hard to believe)

    Does anyone know what’s up?

  • Tanuki Tanaka

Day 2. Got myself some chips. Suddenly remembered I hate the flavor.

  • Deep Thoughts

    Just once more for emphasis:

Phillies wanted Aaron Judge for Marlon Byrd at trade deadline

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • yanks61

Before all the comments got wiped out, I asked yesterday if anyone knew if Lohud was refusing all comments. There has been zero comments there since quite a few days ago. Just curious. Thanks.

    • vicki

      downvote.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 3. Wish I had some soda.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

    Day 4. Need croutons.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 5. Bought too much croutons, now need more salad dressing.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 6, I want some cookies.

    • forensic

      What happened on Day 1???

      • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 1 was the first comment section change, and unfortunately the main piece of the series of meaningless comments. Something about a journal after the comment nuclear armageddon and being a survivor and eating.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 8, I ate the paper with day 7 on it.

    • Deep Thoughts

Curious to see how this plays out.

      • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Back in 9th grade I was really bored once so I actually ate some paper, to compare the taste between lined paper and those brown paper towels (unused, of course).

Texture is a bit different but both taste bland and flavorless. Something that doesn’t go down easy (at least for me) but if I had to survive a week locked in a library I can probably survive by eating books, assuming that they can actually make me not die from hunger if i swallowed them.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 9, I really have no idea what I ate, but there’s still stuff in the fridge that hasn’t disappeared and they might go bad soon. Real bad. Like giving me a stomache ache as revenge for eating their bretherens.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 10. No food poisoning yet. I’ll take it as a yes on whether to eat the rest of the stuff.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 11, ate some shrimp and watched Forrest Gump.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 12. It rained. Had some fish. Wish it would rain fish.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 13, had some donuts. Apparently donuts can get harder if you put it in the fridge (not freezer).

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 14: There’s no bloody giant plastic bottles of grape soda of any brand in the closest grocery store from me, so I’m stuck with cans.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 15: Spicy fried peas are good for snacks. Light weight and totally not bland.

  • http://www.google.com Tanuki Tanaka

Day 16: Eating McNuggets for first time in half a decade or so. Better than some nuggets out there but I’ve had better microwavable nuggets.
