Fan Confidence Poll: August 7th, 2009
ByRecord Last Week: 5-2 (42 RS, 38 RA)
Season Record: 87-50 (787 RS, 651 RA), 7.5 games up
Opponents This Week: vs. Tampa Bay (4 games), vs. Baltimore (3 games)
Top stories from last week:
- The month of August came to an almost perfect end, as Andy Pettitte flirted with history in the series opener in Baltimore. AJ Burnett wasn’t at his best the next day, but the offense bailed him out. CC Sabathia closed out the series in style, dominating the Orioles for another sweep.
- The winning continued into Toronto, as Jorge Posada powered the Yanks to their seventh straight win in the series opener. Roy Halladay one hitting them on Friday, but the Yanks rebounded behind Pettitte on Saturday. A bunch of little leaguers got blown out on Sunday.
- Mariano Rivera missed a good chunk of the week with a sore groin, but he’s back and feels good. Alex Rodriguez may not need a second hip surgery after the season at all, which is great news. The Yanks would like to bring Johnny Damon back for another year.
- In the non-news department, don’t expect Derek Jeter to sign a contract extension before his current deal is up. The Yanks did kick the tires on Mike Cameron and Brad Penny, though sometimes the best deals are the ones you don’t make.
- You know things are going really well in Yankeeland when George Steinbrenner offers up just a modest statement, even when he’s being sued.
- Postseason ticket prices and policies were set.
Please take a second to answer the poll below and give us an idea of how confident you are in the team. You can view the Fan Confidence Graph anytime via the nav bar above, or by clicking here. Thanks in advance for voting.
Given the team's current roster construction, farm system, management, etc., how confident are you in the Yankees' overall future?

Gotta go with 9, the Yanks are the best babay!
/Dick Vitale’d.
I’m still a 9.
I have been since Spring Training. I don’t get why anyone would change their assessment of a team in the middle of April.
I agree you cant change in the middle of April, but you cant have blind faith all year*
*i.e) Red Sox fans saying that DiceK won 18 games last year so when he returns next week he’s going to be that pitcher
No, but you also can’t be a yo-yo and want the manager fired because the team has the nerve to be 2 games over .500 on May 1st. If you assess the team critically in ST and understand it’s a long season, you should stick to your guns. Barring major injuries, of course.
No, I agree with that completely.
Remember the DFA Matsui fanclub?
Diasuke will be a big game pitcher in the NY/Penn league playoffs. You’ll see.
I’ve been no lower then an 8. That is what I started out at the beginning of the year. I went to a 9 when the SP straightened out and the BP got good.
It’s 9, and it’s been like that for awhile.
“Well round here, between Normandie and Western, we call this here a little Tenny ten ten…”
Oh you ain’t catchin’ no crackhead.
I know I’m getting WAYYYY ahead of things here, but the thought of a Yanks-Cards or Yanks-Phillies World Series is something I’m already getting excited about. ESPN did a piece today about Yanks-Cards.
BTW-No, I don’t believe in jinxes, or that anything I type on a messageboard will change anything.
and how could I forget Yanks-Dodgers. Torre and Manny.
I predicted Yanks/Phils in that community thread so if it comes true, I’m the man.
I predicted a Natinals/Royals World Series…..FAIL
So close.
I was thinking this morning how much I’d love to see a Yankee-Cardinal WS. Pujols in YS, Molina v. Molina, Clutch-Rod…oh the drama!
(Funny, I don’t believe in jinxes when it comes to typing something like “A ring for Jeter’s thumb!” but it does bug me when announcers drone on about perfect games in the midst of one.)
Molina v. Molina
All other subplots pale before this one.
It will be like “A League of Their Own”, only with even more testosterone!
Anyone else think we should be more worried about the Tigers with Verlander-Jackson going than the awful Angels rotation or the broken down Sox starters?
I’m starting to come around to this line of thinking, myself.
Jackson 2nd Half ERA, OPSA, and WHIP: 4.26, .858, 1.58.
Washburn: 4.68, .774, 1.24
That’s fine with me. Their bullpen is awful as well.
Good info, Mo. Appears Mr Jackson is reverting to the old Edwin the Yanks knew and loved facing. The post season is all about match ups, check out his splits vs the Yanks.

How is it possible for a pitcher to complete -.1 innings? I’ve got to know!
No matter what, I’m always nervous about a Yanks / Sox series. Broken down starters or not you know, if that series comes to pass, it’s gonna be a heart-stopper.
I’m feeling like a 9 overall, but an 8 for the immediate future. Not crazy about the pitching matchups against Tampa. I always like CC, but with the way Burnett and Joba have been going — and throw in a Gaudin start — I’m hoping we don’t hit a bump in the road.
I’ve been a ten since the 4 game sweep, and will def stay that way unless something ludicrous happens
Mike, good job making Rob Neyer taste metal. He must be one of the writers who still holds the NL equal to the AL
I heard that Gardner and Duncan were called up. Can anyone confirm this?
