2013 Draft: Keith Law’s Mock Draft v2.0

By

In his latest mock draft (subs. req’d), Keith Law has the Astros taking UNC 3B Colin Moran with the first overall pick in next Thursday’s draft. The idea is Houston would save some draft pool money and then spread it around on later picks. Stanford RHP Mark Appel falls to the Cubs with the second pick while former Yankees draft pick/Oklahoma RHP Jonathan Gray slides to the Indians at five in the projection.

Law has the Yankees selecting Texas HS OF Billy McKinney (26th), Notre Dame 3B Eric Jagielo (32nd), and Tennessee HS RHP Kyle Serrano (33rd) with their three first round picks. Click the links for my write-ups on McKinney and Jagielo. Serrano really blew up this spring, going from afterthought to likely first rounder thanks to mid-90s velocity and two strong offspeed pitches (curveball and changeup). Law hears the Yankees are also in on Stanford OF Austin Wilson, New Jersey HS Rob Kaminsky, JuCo LHP Cody Reed, California HS RHP Phil Bickford, and Kentucky HS LHP Hunter Green. As a long-time supporter of prep prospects, I’m glad to hear them connected to this lot of players.

Other Mock Drafts: Baseball America (v1.0, v2.0) Keith Law (v1.0), and MLB.com (v1.0).

Something to keep in mind w/Serrano is that his father just finished year two as UT’s head coach & the turnaround of the struggling program has been disappointing thus far. He recruited some nice position players last year but what they really need is pitching & Kyle is thus far committed to the Vols…& his father.

Is there a Dante Bichette III we could get our hands on?

Crickets…. This joke hasn’t been funny for a couple months now.

      • W.B. Mason Williams

Really? I made this joke just for you. I’ll go cry in a corner now. Glad you wasted the time to type this reply.

Just can’t go a single day without ripping that pick, can we?

      • viridiana

Strange that DBJ pick is ripped. He went 51st in draft. Not many make it from that spot.

        • Robinson Tilapia

People read blogs like these, saw that he was a bit of an overreach, and ran with it.

Without blogs like these, those same people wouldn’t know Cito Culver from Cito Gaston.

I don’t really know what you’re referring to. This is the first time I’ve ever made a joke at DBJ’s expense, and I don’t speak for the whole RAB community. If you want a dead horse to beat, talk to me about the hopes and dreams for Nik Turley and Brett Marshall.

That seems like it would be a strong draft. I really want them to take Austin Wilson, though.

I wouldn’t mind seeing them take Jordan Paroubeck with one of their 2 comp picks either. High upside H.S. switchitter with speed, power and very good arm. Would be a great 2nd round pick but good chance he’s gone before the Yanks 2nd round pick at 66

Would love to see them take cody reed at 26 but will he be available at 26, probably not! If he is not available i would take evan anderson from oklahoma or JD Busfield from Valencia high school as a high school pick and then Kent Emanuel from UNC and Kyle Richter from USC with 32 and 33rd pick. Does anyone think JD Busfield, or Evan Anderson will be tough signs since they are high schoolers. This draft is deep in lefthanded starting pitching so much rather draft pitching than position players with first three picks. Position players are really weakness this year in the draft. But curious if we have the budget to draft JD Busfield at 26 and Evan Anderson from dale, Oklahoma at 32, then draft Kyle Richter at 33. If we did I would do it.

Jesus Christ, you post about this 3 guys EVERY SINGLE draft post. None of this guys are in BA’s top 500, there’s a good chance they may not even be drafted. There not good picks in the first round Jesus.

  • Wayne

Not interested in Phil Bickford, Hunter Green or Austin Wilson. Austin Wilson may be the only high end guy out of these guys but not with first three picks.

Kaminsky is overrated to me don’t like his build. Serrano I have to see on video.

  • Marcum Sussly

If you think Kaminsky is overrated, you obviously haven’t seen him. Only problem is he likely will be gone before Yankees get to pick him.
