- The week started with a four-game home-and-home series with the Marlins. The Yankees dropped a pitcher’s duel in Monday’s 2-1 loss, then Nathan Eovaldi got hammered in Tuesday’s 12-2 loss. The series then shifted to Yankee Stadium and the Yankees won the third game 2-1. They earned a split with Thursday’s 9-4 win.
- The Tigers came to the Bronx for a three-game weekend series and Alex Rodriguez led the Yankees to a win with his 3,000th hit (a homer!) in Saturday’s 7-2 win. After surprising Mel Stottlemyre with a Monument Park plaque at Old Timers’ Day on Saturday, the Yankees walloped the Tigers 14-3. Detroit rebounded yesterday and beat the Yankees 12-4.
- Injury Updates: Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) has taken batting practice. Andrew Miller (forearm) has not yet resumed throwing. Mason Williams (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day DL with inflammation. Jacob Lindgren (elbow) will miss 12 weeks following surgery to remove a bone spur. Sergio Santos (elbow) needs Tommy John surgery. Gary Sanchez (hand) was placed on the Double-A DL with a bruise. Andrew Bailey (shoulder) pitched in a minor league game.
- The bullpen revolving door featured Bryan Mitchell, Jose Ramirez, Jose DePaula, and Danny Burawa last week. Diego Moreno and Nick Rumbelow will be called up today. Esmil Rogers accepted his outright assignment and reported to Triple-A Scranton. Aaron Judge was promoted to Triple-A.
- The Yankees signed a bunch of 2015 draft picks, most notably third rounder Drew Finley to an above-slot $950,000 bonus. The team didn’t sign any additional international prospects before the 2014-15 signing period.
- The MLBPA requested a “hold” to help settle the dispute over the $6M milestone bonus owed to A-Rod for his 660th homer.
- The Yankees have been scouting Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake recently.
