2013 Draft: Keith Law’s Mock Draft v3.0

6/3-6/5 Series Preview: Cleveland Indians
Yankees activate Andy Pettitte, send Brennan Boesch to Triple-A

In his latest mock draft (subs. req’d), Keith Law has the Astros selecting UNC 3B Colin Moran with the top overall pick. Seems like they’re poised to cut a deal and spread the draft pool savings around elsewhere. That leaves Stanford RHP Mark Appel, San Diego 3B Kris Bryant, and Oklahoma RHP Jonathan Gray for the Cubs (#2), Rockies (#4), and Twins (#4), respectively.

The Yankees have three first round picks, and Law has them selecting Texas HS OF Billy McKinney (#26), Notre Dame 3B Eric Jagielo (#32), and Tennessee HS RHP Kyle Serrano (#33). Click the links for my write-up of each player. Law also says the Yankees “appear to be on almost everybody, because with three picks in the first round, they need to scout almost everybody.” He connects them to JuCo LHP Cody Reed, California HS RHP Phil Bickford, and North Carolina HS RHP Hunter Harvey, specifically.

Other Mock Drafts: Baseball America (v1.0, v2.0, 3.0) Keith Law (v1.0, v2.0), and MLB.com (v1.0, v2.0).

Please, for the love of God, draft three guys who can actually hit, and install them in the middle of the order IMMEDIATELY!

    • Chip

They obviously just need to trade the farm and get Stanton, Harper and Trout in a massive 4 way deal

I’d like to believe you know better than this.

      • Zoso

        Well, obviously.

I’m actually hopeful that Phil Bickford is still there when they have their first pick, though that’s highly unlikely.

The dude struck out 17 straight batters on Saturday. Try to get your head around that.

  • Chip

I’m not sure they get the huge ceiling guy out of that mix. I’d rather see them gamble with at least one of those three on a Cody Reed or Phil Bickford and see if they can turn him into an ace.

  • Thomas

Anyone else completely underwhelmed by Jagielo? He just seems like his upside isn’t great and neither his probability.

    • Chip

I think he has a high floor but that floor is simply a .250/.320/.380 starter at third for a really bad team and the ceiling might be Scott Brosius (wait, aren’t those the same things?)

I like that Chris Anderson RHP Jacksonville St. Hes a big strong kid who looks the part, and a big fastball(of course from a 6ft 4in 225lber), and has a plus slider as well.. He projects as a innings eater middle of the rotation guy, who shoulden’t need all that long to get to the show. Were gonna need pitching help sooner then later(kuroda , pettitte, and even CC) are all getting up there in age and/or are retiring after this yr. Also Hughes is a FA, that is simply not worth resigning.

Notice that St Louis took a pitcher from Texas A & M last year who just made his first start. Yankees seem to focus on high school players.

  • sas

Because they have the most potential.
