  1. Cool Lester Smooth says:

Back up to a 7 (still below my baseline of 8), Nunez is back, Pineda’s looking good and A-Rod and Jeter have started rehab.

Oh, and they went 6-1 and are tied for the second WC slot.

  2. kingslayer says:

Anyone voting a 10 on fan confidence poll is living in a fantasy land!!

  3. CS Yankee says:

    A weak 7, my range is always between a 6 and a 9.

Had a bad feeling about Mo in the ninth yesterday, but its a move Joe needs to make 9-out-of-every-10 times.

Give me Jeter with 2011′s range and 2012′s bat along with 2009 Arod and 2012 first-half Grandy, and early-2013 Great Gazoo…Yes, i want the stars to align in Mo’s last year for #28.

  4. jjyank says:

Going with a 7. Maybe a 6 for this season and an 8 for the future.

  5. Robinson Tilapia says:

Back up to 7. We’ll actually have our left side of the infield back soon. Michael Pineda lives. The “middle of the order” has shown signs of life. It’s now JULY and the division is still close. That other shoe? Still apparently nice and snug.

    • Mandy Stankiewicz says:

All of this. And the games with the 10′s comment. + Nova and Hirok threw gems, and Nunez is back and looked good in the box.

  6. CountryClub says:

Based on what the media (Sherman, Collins, etc..) are saying about Jeter, he’s just about ready to come back. His swing and timing look good and he’s moving well.

If the AS break wasn’t in 7 days I bet he would have been back this time next week. But I’d be shocked if he’s not playing in the 1st game after the break.

  7. trr says:

I’m back up to 6, from a 5 last week. The team has shown some good mental toughness bouncing back this week . Still so many holes to fill, so many big questions to be answered….

  8. Eddard says:

Dad and I are back at a 10 this week, up from .025 last week. They had a great week and are set up for another one vs AL Central whipping boys KC and Minny. The Yanks are 7-0 vs KC and Minny this season. Sox are out West. This is a prime opportunity to get within 2-3 games by the ASB.

Nuney’s back to give more length to the lineup. Jete and A-Rod will be back soon to upgrade SS and 3B. They just need Grandy back and then a C and a RH 1B and they’ll be in pretty good shape.

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

You first had me with the .025, but Nuney bringing more length truly brought this over the top.

    • Cool Lester Smooth says:

Haha, posts like this are why I don’t understand when people get pissed at you.

      • Robinson Tilapia says:

Seriously, dude. You may make other furious but, more often than not, Eddard, you bring a smile to my face.

        • YanksFan says:

I prefer Eddard 10 times out of 10 vs. TomH. I think Eddard lives in reality more than TomH does. Not that he lives here all that much.

          • Robinson Tilapia says:

Wow, it’s not TomH week on here, is it?

Tom’s never gotten past “guy I sometimes disagree with” on here with me, but I’ve lacked patience for anyone who does the “back in the 1950′s, son” thing as of late.

It is perfectly OK to do the “back in the early 1990′s, son” thing, though. ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY OK WE ARE STILL YOUNG.

            • Jim Is Bored says:

I offered to make a handle bet with TomH pre-season about whether we’d finish above .500

His response: “I don’t bet on certainties.”

That pretty much sealed his fate as “Asshole” in my book.

              • Improbable Island's Dirty Midget Whores (formerly RRR) says:

It also makes no sense. Isn’t that the type of bet you take without blinking?

            • OhioYanks says:

If you’re not actually trying to have a discussion with him I suppose he’s not particularly offensive or anything. I just find TomH pretty tough to take seriously. 90% of his comments pertain to the sky falling and/or statistics not applying to baseball.

          • Improbable Island's Dirty Midget Whores (formerly RRR) says:

Eddard is worlds better than Greg, at least. I’ll take 100 Eddards to the craziness that is Greg.

  9. Jim Is Bored says:

Still a 7, have been all year, can’t imagine that changing too much unless either ARod/Jeter/Grandy provide a huge boost or they completely crater.

Figure they’ll be a modest improvement and we’ll stay in the race until the end, which is all I hoped for this year.

Future outlook is similar; things could break right or they might not. But we’ve got some talent, and enough of it that we should see one or two guys turn out.

  10. Hassey says:

I am confident – I’d say an 11 – that there are some real nutcases over on the Lohud posting board.

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

I’m home sick. Give me a specific thread to entertain me as I figure out whether I can get this Citrix plug-in to work so that I can work from home a bit.

      • Hassey says:

RT – check this out, especially the overnighters. It’s certainly not everyone, usually good for some yuks over there, but it’s lately just off the wall:

        • Robinson Tilapia says:

Notice how much of it is the same shit that happens here. There are regulars (a reference to the “alliance” at one point) who get called out for being too positive about the team. The negative posters try to claim realism for themselves and, hell, some of them are the same ones who show up here every now and then. Look, there’s austinmac!

Some occasional commenters here have a more permanent home over there. This Trisha tries to fight the good fight, but she did misspell “holistic” as “wholistic.” I still like her.

          • Cool Lester Smooth says:

I’m 90% sure the first “alliance” comment was an Arrested Development reference.

          • Jim Is Bored says:

I hope Pat M. stays there.

            • Robinson Tilapia says:

I don’t feel like re-registering, but I do feel like starting a drive to get some of the more fun folks over here.

Seriously, Trisha could fight the good fight while bringing a hilarious soap opera element. She’d be Ted with tits.

              • Jim Is Bored says:

Unfortunately casting a net like that will bring the dregs too.

              • FEED.ME.MORE! says:

                “Ted with tits”

                Scary image, bro.

Trisha does seem to be rational.

                • Cool Lester Smooth says:

As someone who never minded Ted outside of the Plank (and occasionally Manny’s BandWagon) Wars, I really wouldn’t have a problem with it.

Unless she started defending the decision to replace Russell Martin with Chris Stewart…

                  • Jim Is Bored says:

I never minded Ted either, but sometimes he would just argue with people who were actively agreeing with him. He did that to me a few times.

It was mind-boggling. I think he just read every single response from the mindset of “People are dumb and disagreeing with me”, whether or not that was the case.

                    • Robinson Tilapia says:

The Mike stuff was too much. Disagree with him, but he runs the damn site. Show respect for that. I also don’t feel like we all should approach commenting like it’s submitting a deposition.

Otherwise, he wasn’t a Negative Nancy and he knew his stuff. That gives him rope with me.

                    • Cool Lester Smooth says:

Yeah, my thing with Ted was “Yeah, he’s a dick, but he’s usually not wrong.”

Unfortunately, the fact that he’s an asshole started to outweigh the fact that he was pretty smart.

                    • Jim Is Bored says:

Yeah. I agree with all of this.

                    • OhioYanks says:

“The Mike stuff was too much. Disagree with him, but he runs the damn site. Show respect for that.”

Obviously you should be respectful to anyone, but I sort of get the feeling that Mike considers himself beyond reproach.

                    • Improbable Island's Dirty Midget Whores (formerly RRR) says:

I don’t remember what it was specifically, but I didn’t mind Ted at first. Then I made a comment and he made some sort of response where called me a troll or an idiot or something of that nature. That put him into “Get out” territory to me.

                    • YanksFan says:

Agreed. I liked Ted and more often than not took his side of things. I think he would take people adding onto his point as disagreeing, when they were not.

Some of it I put as you don’t see/hear a person’s “tone” on the net. I’ve gotten into trouble with that in the past.

                    • Jim Is Bored says:

It got silly sometimes. He could say “I really like Cano!” And someone would add “And I like that he hits for a lot of power!”

And his response would be something like “What, you don’t think he hits for average? Let me write you a 3 page essay citing all (legitimate) sources about how he hits for average and plays good defense too!”

                    • Robinson Tilapia says:

He’d also pursue ANYONE just to see if they were serious, even if the person screen name was “JUSTFUCKINGWITHTED.”

It was a bizarre exercise in futility.

                  • FEED.ME.MORE! says:

Oh, no. I had no real issue with Ted (although he seemed to argue semantics for the hell of it).

I’m just saying the image of Ted with tits is a disturbing one.

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

I’ve always liked this Trisha. She should join us here.

The nesting of comments continues to be unbearable there.

      • Cool Lester Smooth says:

What’s our inter-blogtional spending pool looking like this year?

        • Robinson Tilapia says:

Wow. Look at jerkface (another occasional one on here) at 11:10 PM. The type of soap opera dynamics they get themselves into over there we don’t even touch.

Trisha would be a good attack dog against those who come on here just wanting a fight. It would leave the rest of us to do more important things. Then again, you said you like argue….

          • Cool Lester Smooth says:

It’s more that I’m incapable of letting things go, haha.

I’m a bit ashamed that I wasn’t even a little drunk when I wrote that essay about Hughes and Nova’s XBH/9 at 2 in the morning.

            • OhioYanks says:

I wish you had that excuse too. Instead, sober, you have decided which samples fit your narrative and which don’t.

              • Jim Is Bored says:

Dude, that was really, really uncalled for.

                • Cool Lester Smooth says:

Someone didn’t read the Ted conversation 10 comments up…

                • OhioYanks says:

Really, really? It’s a joke Judge Jim, take a chill pill. Or just don’t butt in to referee conversations.

Lester has twisted every sample to explain why ones that don’t fit his narrative aren’t representative (career samples, multi-year samples, looking at recent performance…), and then he comes back with a one season sample as conclusive.

                  • Jim Is Bored says:

I know your history. It wasn’t a joke. Or at least one in good taste.

Keep your arguments to the threads they happen in. Revisiting them every time you’re both in a thread is irritating to everyone else.

I don’t care who was right, it’s just annoying.

                    • OhioYanks says:

Oh, go fuck yourself Blog Police. What did you write the Handbook to Blogging Etiquette? (That’s a joke too, by the way. Have to spell them out for you I suppose).

It was a joke. He brought up that thread. You telling me what to type is what’s annoying. You know my history?

                    • Jim Is Bored says:

                      Your and Lester’s argument history.

                      Clearly I pressed a button.

                      Good day.

                    • Robinson Tilapia says:

Oh Jesus. Here we go again.

Can we go a few hours without OY not trying to pick an argument with someone?

                    • Cool Lester Smooth says:

Let’s shut this down before jerkface and NYY_Girl_Penny post this thread on LoHud and laugh about our histrionics.

                    • OhioYanks says:

“Can we go a few hours without OY not trying to pick an argument with someone?”

Did I really pick a fight here?

                    • Robinson Tilapia says:

                      Honestly? Yeah.

He mentioned an argument in passing. I didn’t quite see it as an invitation to re-open the wound all over again on a thread which had little to do with it.

Again, you know your stuff, and I don’t need to agree with you all the time, like with the SSS stuff with part-timers. I just feel like you come on here looking for an argument more often than not, and that’s a shame because, when you’re not, I actually find your comments pleasant and want to interact with you more.

You don’t need to prove jack shit to me, and I’m not judge of anything. Just typing out what I think on a day where working from home offers loads of distraction.

                    • OhioYanks says:

I wasn’t really trying to pick a fight with CLS. Continue the discussion or just make a joke, depending on if he responded.

I had no intention of engaging Jim, though. He came after me twice. Trying to establish some sort of alpha male position where no one can submit a comment on this blog that he doesn’t approve of, presumably, because when I told him that he was mistaken in his interpretation of my comment he just came back at me harder.

So, to me Jim really went way out of his way to pick an argument with me. I didn’t particularly care to argue with him.

                    • Jim Is Bored says:

Sigh, I guess I’m dragged back in, nothing better to do.

I told you that it felt like your comment was out of line, you told me to Go Fuck Myself.

I’ll leave everything up to the rest of the commentariat to decide.

                    • Jim Is Bored says:

And you should realize from the rest of my comments that I’m largely even-keeled and don’t get involved in too much of this nonsense.

So when I say something, it’s not willy-nilly.

                    • Jim Is Bored says:

And to top off my triple post, no one here took what you said as a “joke”. If anyone else did, let them speak up.

                    • OhioYanks says:

No, Jim. You initiated this one bud. You told me how I meant my comment and went through a laundry list of what I should and should not do on someone else’s blog. I told you to go fuck yourself only after your second straight dick comment. My first response was perfectly civil, the worst I did was tell you to take a chill pill.

Even in your latest comments you are trying to tell me what to do and how other people you don’t even know interpreted my comment. No one has responded either way, big guy.

        • jjyank says:

We could always trade for some more. Maybe we can get some pool money from Toronto if we give TomH back to Bluebird Banter.

  11. Bavarian Yankee says:

back up to a 6. The last week has been fun and it looks like Jeter and A-Rod will be back soon.

  12. I'm One says:

Trying to be realistic here and look at the long-term prognosis. With the $189M spending cap still in an unsettled state, it’s hard to determine where I should be, so I’m sticking with a 7. I’m anxious to see how Jeter & A-Rod return (and happy Nunez is performing well in his limited time back, but not having an “Eddard-gasm”), but I’d still like to see a couple of moves along the lines of Micheal Young &/or Kendrys Morales and then see how the off-season plays out before going any higher.

  13. brian says:

i’m scared to death to make this prediction but i really think that Jeter will be back for Friday’s game…

    1. Facing Diamond, a crappy lefty

    2. I heard Scranton hits the road friday and it’s already been stated Jeter won’t be going with them…

    3. I don’t like the idea of all of a sudden playing 3 straight games in FENWAY PARK next weekend.. that’s a stressful atmosphere to make a return… this weekend is much more cushy

if he plays shortstop the next two nights for a minimum of 5 innings and there are no complications… :)

    • I'm One says:

Definitely seems conceivable, especially since he’s not traveling with them when htey go on the road.

      • Robinson Tilapia says:

Yeah. Seems like the stars are aligning.

Surprised it’s happening that quick, but it’s the Captain, and I’ll assume he’s not totally trying to throw the rest of his career in the toilet.

        • brian says:

Yeh, it’s def a balancing act… on the one hand, I haven’t heard or seen anything from Jeter would lead me to believe that he isn’t going to play into his 40′s, thats been the plan all along… of course there will be speculation about him retiring after 2014, but that’s all it will be, is idle speculation

He’s got to give what he can give in 2013 while still putting himself in a position where he can be productive and offer something in 2015 and 2016… it will be fascinating to watch

  14. LarryM Fl says:

6, I can not go higher until an improvement at third and first. We have a stabilizing situation at shortstop. If the new first base/OF signing can give us just a bit more in the power department. The near return of Curtis coupled with a catcher improvement ( Ruiz). This team can be a real contender. We have two two very capable starters with 4/5 guys who can compliment. So I see more positive than negative.

I’m not a 20 as Eddard. So I guess my positive is more tempered.

    • Preston says:

It’s looking more and more like 1b is our biggest need with the emergence of Zoile in the OF (plus Ichiro isn’t that terrible anymore) Nunez is back and Jeter and A-Rod are soon to follow to shore up the left side of the infield. Kendrys Morales would really be a nice addition.

  15. FEED.ME.MORE! says:

Glad to see Nunez back. Cruz has played decently. Hard to see that continuing.

Jeter and Alex coming back soon (fingers crossed).

Hopefully Granderson can return by the end of the month.

Catcher? We need work. I don’t know if it’s a right decision, but maybe Murphy gets some run. Stewart should not be playing everyday, and Romine seems overmatched. I don’t see any impact catchers being on the market (Why would Oakland trade John Jaso?).

  16. YanksFan says:

Back up to my usual 9 after dropping to an 8 last week. For all the bitching & moaning about this team, they’re in WC contention, in the toughest division in MLB to boot. For all the love about the Tigers they have the same record and in a much easier division. This is the second year in a row for them. I would love to play their opponents 72 times a year.

Let’s see any other team lose 4 starters(5 if you count Cerv) and see where they would be. Then when you factor in that they are 2 of the top 3 power hitters on the team. Than lose 2 of those starters backups.

    People seriously need some perspective.

  17. Get Phelps Up says:

    8 for this week.

You know all the folks who were saying the Yankees were going to be 10 games out in July? Well that exact same thing looks like it’s going to happen to the Offseason Champion Blue Jays.

  18. Robinson Tilapia says:

What does “swinging a pipe underwater” look like anyway? So many hilarious visuals.

  19. Improbable Island's Dirty Midget Whores (formerly RRR) says:

Still at 10, baby. We’re making the playoffs, and if we do that we have as good a chance as any other team to win the damn World Series.

More than that, I think we still have a legitimate shot at the division if we can keep the deficit between four and 6 by the break.

Saying we’re in fourth place right now means very little to me considering that we were in second yesterday.

  20. JLC 776 says:

Last week’s historically low 4.05 is officially in the books! Wow…

  21. Improbable Island's Dirty Midget Whores (formerly RRR) says:

Vis-a-vis the above conversation, Greg has finally broken me. I just can’t deal with him anymore. He’s either a complete joke or a troll, and either way when it’s pointed out that he’s wrong he just Won’t. Shut. Up. Which pretty much puts him in troll territory in my book.

At least the commenter Troll is gone. He went over the line from “Trolling” to “Get the Hell out of here, dick” when he accused me of telling him to kill himself. I’m glad he left/is banned. Not sure which, don’t care. People like that aren’t funny, aren’t clever, and aren’t mature enough to be talking to people on the internet. That wasn’t cool.

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

What makes you think he’s really gone? Please. He’s either reading everything or just switched screen names.

    • Jim Is Bored says:

Were you the one who made a bet with Greg and he said something like “Well, fine, you win on a technicality” instead of just admitting you were right?

    • Cool Lester Smooth says:

I’ve been done with Troll ever since he said that How I Met Your Mother was a shitty Chuck Lorre show.

    • Get Phelps Up says:

I’d happily take dalelama coming back if it meant no Greg. It was pretty obvious that he was trolling (he actually indirectly outed himself a few times), but with Greg I can’t shake the feeling that he really believes that stuff. TomH too, but you do what you have to do when you’re 10 games out…

      • Robinson Tilapia says:

Greg sticks to game threads, as do some of the really annoying ones. Just attend game threads sparingly.

  22. Chiggie says:

They need to be picking up other pieces if they really want to really make a run.
