• The Orioles came to the Bronx for a four-game series next. The offense came alive in Thursday’s 13-5 win, Friday’s 8-2 win, and Saturday’s 9-3 win. The Yankees were unable to finish the sweep in Sunday’s 6-4 loss.
• Injury Updates: Aaron Hicks (oblique) has started throwing and taking dry swings. Adam Warren (back) is playing catch. • The week started with three games in Baltimore. The Yankees earned a 7-4 win Monday before suffering a crushing walk-off 7-6 loss Tuesday. Wednesday’s game was rained out, and the Yankees picked up a 9-1 win Thursday in the makeup game.
• A three-game set in Texas was next. The Yankees blew a four-run lead in Friday’s 11-5 loss, but they rebounded with a 3-1 win Saturday and a 16-7 win Sunday.
• Injury Updates: Adam Warren (back) was placed on the 10-day DL with spasms and will be shut down for at least two weeks. There’s a chance his season is over. • Gary Sanchez’s suspension was reduced to three games, and he served it during the Orioles series. Austin Romine’s suspension was reduced to one game. He served it during the first game of the Rangers series.
• Garrett Cooper (hamstring) was activated off the disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Scranton. Tyler Wade and Tyler Austin were called up last week.
• Both Triple-A Scranton and Double-A Trenton are going to their league’s championship series. The GCL Yankees East won their league championship.

• The week started with three games against the first place Indians. Corey Kluber outdueled Luis Severino in Monday’s 6-2 loss. Tuesday’s game was rained out, forcing the two teams to play a doubleheader Wednesday. The Yankees lost the first game 2-1, then lost the second game 9-4.
• The Red Sox came to town next. CC Sabathia pitched the Yankees to a 6-2 win Thursday in the opener, but the offense didn’t do much of anything in Friday’s 4-1 loss. The Yankees received a great start from Masahiro Tanaka in Saturday’s 5-1 win, then won a 9-2 blowout Sunday.

• The Yankees acquired Erik Kratz from the Indians in a cash trade for extra catcher depth. Kratz, Jordan Montgomery, Ben Heller, and Bryan Mitchell were the first wave of September call-ups. • Brian Cashman headed to Japan last week to get a firsthand look at Shohei Otani. It’s still unknown whether Otani will make the jump to MLB this offseason.
• SS Thairo Estrada, OF Estevan Florial, 1B Chris Gittens, SS Kyle Holder, LHP Justus Sheffield, and RHP Dillon Tate will represent the Yankees in the Arizona Fall League.
• The Yankees will reportedly visit Philadelphia for the first time since the 2009 World Series next year. They’re due to face the NL East in interleague play.

• The 2017 non-waiver trade deadline came and went, and about an hour before the deadline the Yankees swung their largest deadline trade in years. They acquired Sonny Gray from the Athletics for Dustin Fowler, James Kaprielian, and Jorge Mateo. Payroll is frozen the rest of the season.
• The Yankees started their three-game series at home with the Tigers a few hours after the trade deadline. They opened the series with a 7-3 win Monday, but lost 4-3 Tuesday and lost 2-0 Wednesday. The starting pitchers in the losses: Anibal Sanchez and Jordan Zimmermann. Yuck.
• A four-game series with the Indians in Cleveland followed. Corey Kluber shut the Yankees down in Thursday’s 5-1 loss, then the offense struggled again in Friday’s 7-2 loss. Chase Headley hit a clutch homer in Saturday’s 2-1 win, then the offense finally broke out in Sunday’s 8-1 win.
• Injury Updates: Matt Holliday (back) was placed on the 10-day DL with a left lumbar strain. Aaron Hicks (oblique) and Tyler Austin (ankle) have started minor league rehab assignments.
